![]() John Tenny, Ph.D. has spent 30 years observing teachers, student teachers, and their students. A noted speaker and writer, Dr. Tenny was the director of the Willamette University School of Education for 15 years, as well as teaching in all grade levels as a classroom teacher and reading specialist. As professor emeritus, he founded the eCOVE Software company to develop and distribute electronic tools for accurate and convenient collection of data for classroom observation.
Dr. Tenny was inducted into the Illinois State University College of Education Hall of Fame, October 2009, for his lifelong contributions to the education profession. He completed his BA and MS degrees at ISU, and went on to complete a Ph.D. in Computer Applications to Education at University of Oregon.
A long time proponent of collaborative, data-based observation of classroom behavior, Dr. Tenny has developed a broad set of researched based tools designed to improve teaching strategies and student achievement. His approach to the entire supervision and observation process has been well received by school administrators, university supervisors, teachers, and student teachers.
Dr. Tenny also conducts workshops and hands-on training on the Data Based Approach to Supervision. His enthusiastic presentations are based on real classroom experience, and provide specific details on improving the effectiveness of supervision and classroom observation efforts.
eCOVE Software LLC, founded in 2002, is a company devoted to improving teaching and learning by increasing the capacity of the administrator, classroom teacher, special education teacher, ESL teacher, parent and student to reflect on their actions through objective data gathered while observing the classroom and students.
Created by career educators, we understand the day to day complexities of the working educator and are dedicated to supporting the needs of the classroom and students. We do our best to respond quickly and clearly with any assistance needed, and are available by email or phone to help with any problem.
We view educators as competent, ethical, professional, and dedicated to the well being of the students. Our goal is to provide useful data related to the in-school behaviors of teachers and students in order to empower administrators, teachers, and parents to make sound decisions for the benefit of the children.
The company is physically located in a small fishing village on the Oregon coast and electronically throughout the world. All those involved work harder and longer than they should, and love doing it.
